Postscript reads “The Garde Nationale is just leaving for Chalons. I hear the dums as I write. Sappers from the provinces are come in to the City to protect us” on flap area soiled cover with 30c pmk’d Paris 7am AUG 1970 arriving Frome, Somerset. Edmund Cockey was most likely a tenant of Argyll House. The family owned a bell foundry, and Cockey & Sons made lamps which can still be found in Frome. Argyll House is in Gentle Street, Frome. It was the dower hose of the Dukes of Argyll.
